Here you'll find the answers on the questions no living soul ever would bother asking:

Q: Who created this website?
Name: Julie Haelemeersch
Nick: Aisling
Whereabouts: I live in Ghent and I work in Brussels.
Date of birth: Well, I won’t give it to you on a plate. I was born on 1 December of the year in which Elvis died. Not that hard to figure out, is it?
Education: Licentiate translation studies (Dutch, English, French)
Occupation(s): Far too many! But if you really want to know, I work in the internal communication department of the Belgian Post Group.
Favourite activities: Apart from going to an average of two concerts a week, you mean?
I've been attending different kinds of evening classes over the last few years, such as:

  • Polish @ PCVO Gent (I wasn't too good at it, I'm afraid, and I've already forgotten a lot)
  • webdesign @ VDAB
  • digital photography and Photoshop for photographers @ KISP.

In order to keep fit, I regularly pop in at the sports' centre for aerobics or yoga and, once a week, I do the best I can to exhaust my opponent during a badminton session. I occasionally venture upon oriental dance classes @ De Ingang.
Oh, and once in a while I try to nourish my creativity by creating mosaic mirrors, tables and flower pots or by making candles.

Q: What is the purpose of Ad Mortem Festinamus?
Ad Mortem Festinamus wants to introduce people to types of music that otherwise might have remained unknown to them, and as the saying goes: unknown, unloved... It seeks to promote gothic and folk music or any other kind of “alternative” music. It's a thin line between those different types of music.

I'm sure that fans of Celtic artists like Loreena McKennitt will enjoy the medieval-inspired band Qntal, and vice versa. And people who adore bagpipe music, might enjoy Saltatio Mortis, Corvus Corax and Tanzwut. Moreover, folk adepts who adore throwing a party, might also enjoy the "Monkipunk" of Boo!. And people who are into dance music, might like EBM music, future pop and electro, such as VNV Nation or God Module.

I hope Ad Mortem Festinamus will succeed in encouraging people to cross borders...

Q: Where does that peculiar name come from?
Well it's a bit of funny and embarrassing story. I chose the name "Ad Mortem Festinamus" because it's a song of one of my favourite bands: Qntal and I thought it meant "We party till we die". If that would have been the meaning of this Latin phrase, it would have perfectly reflected what this weblog's all about. Unfortunately "Ad Mortem Festinamus" means "we are hastening towards our deaths", which is quite something else, of course! As a result, Ad Mortem Festinamus has faced a bit of an identity crisis ;-) However, it's too late to change that name now, for everyone already knows the name Ad Mortem Festinamus! Besides, we are hastening toward our deaths, so there's only one remedy: "carpe diem" and one way of doing that is going to concerts and other events...

Q: How did the idea of creating this website grow?
This website is in fact a sequel to my weblog http://amf.skynetblogs.be.

Basically, I decided to create this weblog after I'd realised that there is not a single trace left of all the great concerts I have attended during the last 10 years: the only remaining proof are the tickets that I have meticulously kept and my fading memories...
Therefore, I came up with the idea of publishing reviews and pictures of the concerts I attend, hoping of course that those might prove to be of interest to other people as well.
Three years ago, I didn't know a thing about photography and I just started taking snapshots with a small digital camera. Meanwhile I've been following some classes and I bought a digital reflex camera, so things can only get better!
